Billing Specialist

Responsible for collecting, posting and managing account payments; Responsible for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies; Provide prompt and professional customer service to patients who call the billing department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and analyze billing claims for accuracy and completeness; submit claims to proper insurance entities and follow up on any issues
  • Answers questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies related to billing concerns for medical procedures received at HealthFirst.
  • Performs various collection actions including correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers, and discussing billing history with patients over the phone.
  • Processes payments from insurance companies in a timely manner, ensuring that daily deposits are balanced on all billing reports.
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing and sending patient statements. Also assists with identifying and resolving patient complaints related to billing concerns.
  • Complies with all local, state, and federal regulations; maintains patient privacy and protest operations by keeping patient care information confidential; complies with HIPAA guidelines; establishes a high level of professional standards and applies those standards to the treatment and care of patients.
  • Participates in educational activities and attends staff meetings.
  • Conducts self in accordance with established HealthFirst standards.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • None

EDUCATION: 

  • High School Diploma or its Equivalency and/or an Associate’s Degree in Medical Billing and Coding preferred.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: 

  • None

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 year of experience in the healthcare field performing billing responsibilities, such as medical billing and coding practices, collection and payment posting.  The candidate must have strong knowledge of health insurances.

  • Abilities include but not limited to:  caring attitude toward patients and co-workers; critical thinking, interpersonal, speaking and active listening skills; detail oriented, good stamina and coordination; ability to work in a fast pace environment; multitask; knowledge of general office procedures and equipment; and ability to work Monday-Friday during standard operating
