X-Ray Technologist (Full Time, Part Time & PRN)

X-Ray Technologist Position Description

Classification:  Non-Exempt

Reports To:  X-Ray Team Lead

Location:  All Clinics (North Charleston, Summerville, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant)

Summary: Administers rapid treatment to patients; take accurate X-rays of areas being examined; provide the images to providers in a timely manner; ensure patients are comfortable and safe; protects patient and company privacy and confidentiality guidelines. 


  • Prepares patients for radiological procedures; takes x-rays of patient’s tissues, or organs/bones to evaluate for possible injury or illness; ensures patients are safe, calm and relaxed by communicating positively and with professionalism.
  • Protects patients and staff from radiation by using shielding and adjusting technique to make sure the machine is set at the appropriate kVp and mAs levels. 
  • When necessary, provide patient with details about injury or illnesses and instructions to properly care for the injury; provides detailed reports about patient’s behavior and any equipment malfunctions; restocks the room with proper supplies after an X-ray. 
  • Assist other staff and provider by performing medic responsibilities, such as applying splints, casts/dressings; administers IV’s, IM injections; drawing blood; may also assist in training new employees.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of how to operate medical imaging equipment; familiar with technical specifications and best practices operating methods of each piece of equipment under their care, including the control panel to adjust radiation exposure time and intensity to maximize image quality; familiar with the technical aspects of each examination, such as:
  • Learn equipment in all HealthFirst offices.
  • Complies with all local, state, and federal regulations; maintains patient privacy and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential; complies with HIPAA guidelines; establishes a high level of professional standards and applies those standards to the treatment and care of patients.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly and functional work area; the work area includes, but it is not limited to counter tops, floor/carpet, restrooms, chairs and kitchen area; replenish medical supplies and materials on a daily basis.

  • This job operates in a professional healthcare setting.  This role requires regular walking to various locations around the medical office building. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses.


  • This is a full-time position but part-time/PRN positions are available as well.  Days and hours of work are Sunday through Saturday, 7:45 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., or until the last patient leaves after 8:00 p.m.; must be able to work three 12-hour shifts per week. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.

  • ARRT Certification Required. Associate’s Degree in Radiography preferred.


  • Must be licensed in the State of South Carolina


  • At least 3 years of experience in the healthcare field. Must have strong knowledge of radiologic and medical procedures


  • Critical thinking, interpersonal, speaking and active listening skills; detail oriented, good stamina and coordination; ability to operate complex machinery (X-ray); must have detailed knowledge of human anatomy to know how to accurately position the patient on the X-ray table/wall board/table top and understand how to enforce the best practice health and safety procedures associated with their subject and imaging equipment; ability and willingness to learn a large scope of nursing skills; including drug screens, casting, splinting, wound care, injections etc.; ability to identify and efficiently describe issues/problems and offer specific solutions, or solve, as well as describe all attempted solutions that did not fix the issue to the appropriate person(s), such as Team Leader, Fix Team, etc.
